AZGS seeking Research Scientist

AZGS seeking Research Scientist

The Arizona Geological Survey (AZGS) is hiring a Research Scientist to join our growing basin analysis team who aims to unravel the potential of Arizona’s basins for subsurface resources and carbon storage feasibility. The new Research Scientist will be responsible for assisting with AZGS research efforts in basin-wide studies utilizing stratigraphic, structural, and geophysical methods as applied to carbon dioxide and hydrogen sequestration and hydrogeologic investigations in deep sedimentary basins. We are looking for candidates with specializations in one or more of the following subdisciplines: basin analysis, stratigraphy, sedimentology, geophysics, structural geology, hydrogeology, geochemistry, and carbon sequestration. Key technical skills for a successful candidate include the ability to conduct geologic mapping (including stratigraphic and structural analysis), interpret diverse data such borehole lithology, laboratory-derived analytical data, and groundwater information, synthesize information in a GIS environment, and ideally conduct or assist with geophysical surveys. The successful candidate will be a scientist who has strong interpersonal skills, can work collaboratively, and can communicate their science effectively with other researchers, public and private stakeholders, and members of the public to further our understanding of Arizona’s natural resources. AZGS staff scientists are expected to participate in AZGS field investigations, develop and write proposals, and conduct office-based data compilations, that will lead to the production of high-quality datasets, maps, reports, scientific papers, and presentations.
